I was originally going to title this post something along the lines of “How to use Chat GPT to combat executive dysfunction” – a post which would have been primarily aimed at neurodivergent people. But like so many pieces of neurodivergent advice, I realised that this applies equally to neurotypical people too.
In other words, it’s another example of how something that helps individuals with ADHD, autism and other neurodivergences can help everyone – something many employers would do well to take the time to understand.
Artificial intelligence is all over the news and social media at the moment, and I’m 100% certain that the way we use it in a year’s time will be completely different to how we use it now. We’re only just getting started, but I’ve already found it to be a great time-saver when I need to produce content but I’m struggling for inspiration.
A quick caveat. Google is apparently able to identify AI-generated content and penalises it when it comes to SEO, so I’d never recommend copying and pasting entire articles on to your blog – I prefer to use them as inspiration.
Using Chat GPT to get started
Sometimes I know what I want to write about, but I struggle to write the opening paragraph. Once I have the first few lines written, I’m pretty good at coming up with a stream of consciousness that I can then edit and mould into a coherent blog post.
On these occasions, I might ask Chat GPT:
“Write the opening paragraph of a blog post about the importance of personal branding for freelancers”
Here’s what Chat GPT came back with:

Rather than copy and paste the content, I might use the key points that Chat GPT has raised to write an entirely new paragraph in my own voice.
This might also prompt me to re-phrase the question:
“What are 5 key reasons that freelancers should take personal branding seriously?”
Chat GPT has provided me with another comprehensive answer:

Again though, I would re-word each of the five key points, and then write the main part of the text in my own words.
Using Chat GPT when you’re running out of steam
Another way I use Chat GPT is to… erm.. hang on a minute…

Using Chat GPT when you’re working in a field in which you are unfamiliar
In this example, I’m pretending that a client has asked me to produce ten photos of a hair care product in unique everyday locations. Clearly I know nothing about hair care, and I don’t offer product photography.

How good is that? Whatever your interest, you could learn lots about a subject in a very small period of time.
Other uses
The three examples here are only the tip of the iceberg, of course. AI can go much further and be used for much more I could ever list in one article. To really get the most out of Chat GPT it’s worth spending the time training it to understand your brand and your voice, but the tips above should be enough to get you started.
