Winter is often seen as a tricky time for photography, but I think it’s full of creative opportunities. With its softer light, muted tones, and cosy vibes, it’s a season that brings its own charm, even if it is more difficult to get out of bed. Here are five types of shots we could create together using The Simple Shoot format this winter:
1. The Misty Morning Walk
Winter mornings, with their crisp air and misty landscapes, are perfect for serene and natural portraits. We could head to a local park like Bouskell Park, Abbey Park or Knighton Park to capture you walking along a quiet path, wrapped in your favourite winter coat or scarf. The bare branches and cool tones create a peaceful, minimalist backdrop that brings out your presence. I’ll even get out of bed for this one.

2. The Urban Winter Explorer
City streets have their own magic in winter. Think warm light spilling from shop windows, reflections in puddles, and the muted greys and browns of urban textures. We could wander through side streets, capture you crossing the road, or lean into dynamic compositions with layered backgrounds of brick and stone. Leicester also has lots of fantastic, vibrant graffiti, so it’s possible to create high-energy images too.

3. The Cosy Moment
Winter wouldn’t be complete without a hot drink in hand. For a warm and intimate vibe, we could use the soft, ambient light of a café. Imagine a steaming coffee cup, natural light streaming through a frosted window, and relaxed shots of you enjoying a quiet moment. Images like these are perfect for personal branding and sharing another side of you on social media. Alternatively, if you work from home we could create homely yet professional images of you at your workstation – and if you have furry friends they can join in the fun too!

4. The Countryside Escape
Even without snow, the countryside can look beautiful in winter. Frosted fields, hedgerows, and winding paths create striking backdrops with a raw, earthy charm. We could focus on natural light and textures to create photos that feel timeless and grounded. It’s ideal for showcasing outerwear or capturing quiet, reflective moments. We don’t need to go too far, either. Gorgeous locations such as Wistow, Swithland and Newtown Linford are only a short drive away.

5. The Golden Winter Sunset
Winter sunsets are some of the best, with their soft, low light and golden tones. One of the aforementioned parks, open fields, or even a canal-side path at Foxton Locks could be the perfect setting for dreamy portraits bathed in that warm glow. It’s a chance to add a bit of colour and drama to your winter shots.

Winter is full of possibilities, and with The Simple Shoot, we’ll create relaxed, natural photos that reflect your personality and style. If you’ve been waiting for the “right” time for a shoot, why not embrace the season and make it happen?
