Summer is here—and in typical British fashion, it’s very hot. But that doesn’t mean you need to hide indoors or wait for autumn to get great photos. The longer days and golden evenings offer loads of opportunity to create relaxed, natural images that feel seasonal and fresh—without overheating in the process.
Here are five ideas we can explore together in The Simple Shoot format this summer:
1. Golden Hour Magic
The sun might be fierce during the day, but the hour before sunset? Perfect. The light softens, the temperature drops, and everything glows. We could head to a park or open field for warm, flattering portraits with a dreamy summer vibe.
2. Shady Green Spaces
In this heat, nobody wants to be standing in full sun. Instead, we can make use of shaded woodland paths, leafy parks, or tucked-away garden corners. The dappled light through the trees creates gentle highlights, and you stay (relatively) cool while we shoot. I also bring an umbrella with me, so we can shoot in bright spaces without the need for squinting!
3. Urban Summer Stroll
Early morning or evening is a great time for a walk through town. We’ll find pockets of natural light, textured walls, interesting doorways, and warm tones from sunlit brickwork. Casual, professional, and full of character—without needing to trek far.
4. Relaxed Café Vibes
Outdoor tables, iced drinks, and soft evening light filtering through parasols? Yes please. We can create lifestyle shots that feel warm and welcoming, ideal for personal branding or just capturing a summer moment without breaking a sweat. And the coffee’s on me (probably literally, knowing how clumsy I can be!)
5. Minimalist Summer Mornings
If you’re an early riser, a quiet summer morning shoot can be lovely. The light is soft, the streets are quiet, and the heat hasn’t kicked in yet. We can create clean, calm images with lots of breathing space—perfect for those who like a modern, minimalist aesthetic. You know I hate early mornings, but for this light? I’ll think about getting up early for you.
With The Simple Shoot, you don’t need to commit to hours in front of the camera. One hour, one location, five beautiful edited images—and done.
