In the latest installment of “it’s only a five-minute walk from my house, I might as well take my camera along”, here are a selection of photos from a wonderful family fun day organised by Blaby Parish Council.
The first thing to notice was the sheer amount of entertainment on offer. Everything from funfair rides to a VR experience.

Kids and adults were able to play a penalty shoot-out game with the opportunity to win prizes. It was encouraging to see the number of young female participants – let’s hope the Lionesses’ success has inspired a new generation of talent!

There was live music throughout the day, interspersed with DJ sets. Here are the Wayne Matthews Trio laying down some smooth jazz vibes:

There was a competition for dog lovers too, so our canine friends were everywhere!

Did I mention that street food, coffee and beer were all available? Many families made a day of it, with the sun blazing down. Luckily, Oakfield Park offers plenty of chances to sit in the shade. As a fair-skinned being, I burn quickly, so I was regularly dodging in and out of cover!

This is the wonderful singer-songwriter Andrea Kenny, formerly of The Brandy Thieves, who had the young crowd captivated.

The evening’s main event, Ska Madness, brought the chaotic energy of all of the bands they covered and they had EVERYONE dancing.

The crowd danced as the sun set, and before we knew it, the day was over, It was an amazing day enjoyed by hundreds of families. I can’t wait for next year’s event!
